Remember how I previously mentioned how we drove down to Utah? Well here is our story of how we got there, because any road-trip in lovely Patty (my car) is not a road-trip without a little bump in the road.
Road-trip Day 1: (Saturday)
We left Rexburg about 3 hours behind schedule... BEHIND! However, our apartment is sparkling and Sara Nobles is all moved into her new place. We got down the road about an hour (we were just south of Blackfoot, ID) when my tire blew out. Not only did it pop or get a hole or anything, it looked like grated cheese!! Not good! So, being the awesome car technician I am I took this as a teaching opportunity to teach Sara (who had never changed a tire before) how to correctly change a tire and NOT get hit by jerk drivers who apparently don't see three girls stranded on the side of a freeway. So I put on the doughnut and called Daddy, who found me a place in Pocatello where I could go to get a new tire. We got to Costco and waited about an hour and a half for the result of 4 new tires that won't pop!
On a side note, while in Costco we found this man, Rodney L. Meldrum, he wrote this awesome book about the Book of Mormon and the architectural and historical evidence that it really is true and really did happen! He signed a copy of his book for us and was extremely great to talk to! Here is his website, check it out! http://www.bookofmormonevidence.org/
Alright, back to the roadtrip.. Well we successfully got Sara to Murray, then got Lauren and I back up to Syracuse at about 10 pm! Just a little later than anticipated.
Road-trip Day 2: (Sunday)
This was a relaxing day spent up in Ogden, UT getting a tour of all the stuff my Great Grandma used to do and places she used to go. We went on a drive through Ogden Canyon and then went to Union station.
Road-trip Day 3: (Monday)
Monday evening Lauren drove out to Payson, UT (down near Orem). She kind of took a detour. As she was driving she got on the freeway going North instead of South and got to Orem about 2 hours after she had originally planned!
That night while Lauren was out with my car I went on a date! Steve served about 3 months of his mission in my ward in Texas while waiting on his visa to go to the West Indies. He got home about April this year and came up to visit in Rexburg on July 4th. Steve lives like 5 minutes from Grandma's house, so he asked me out on a date while I was down here visiting. After he picked me up we went to the Golf course and he attempted to teach me how to golf. I say attempted not because he is a bad teacher, but because I really don't know how to golf and I was doing horribly! So, after golfing we went to Costa Vida and got food and took it to the park to eat. Then we bought fireworks and wasted time until it got dark. Can you guess what we did when the sun went down?? We burnt our fingers, kind of a lot! But the fireworks were tons of fun to set off and we had a blast! After our fireworks escapades, we went back to his house and watched half of "The Labyrinth". It has seriously been FOREVER since I've seen that movie!
Road-trip Day 4: (Tuesday)
PIONEER DAY! So, Pioneer Day is an official state holiday here in Utah. Lauren and I have never celebrated pioneer day being from Texas and it is obviously not a holiday there! We "hired" Steve and his buddy Casey to be our Pioneer Day tour guides. They did a great job! We woke up extremely early and caught the frontrunner train to downtown SLC. The train left the station at 6:30 AM! When we got downtown nothing was open yet because it was really early and the parade didn't start till 9... so we killed time for 2 hours! Then the parade started. And seriously, I've never seen a parade this big. Only like the Mavs Victory Parade or Macy's Thanksgiving Parade on TV. The parades in The Colony are like super lame compared to this one! It was like 2+ hours long and the floats were so pretty! After the parade we went and toured temple square thoroughly and just walked all around downtown.. We finally got back to the train about 6pm... That means we walked around in the sun for 12 hours!!!! Crazy! Our feet hurt so bad! After that the four of us went out to dinner and then met up with some of their friends and shot off more fireworks. Then finally, we went on a walk through Layton Park. The guys swear this park is haunted, but I'm not sure. If anything it's a little dark! haha.
Road-trip Day 5: (Wednesday)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRAMS! Today is Grandma's 94th birthday! So, pretty much Lauren and I are hangin out with her for the day!
To Be Continued....
